Fairtytale Town
Fairytale Town is truly built for preschool-aged children. It’s a giant playground, on 2.4 acres, built around fairytales, storybook tales, nursery rhymes and other children’s stories. Your preschooler can play on a play structure in Sherwood Forest, run along the Crooked Mile or slide down the rabbit hole from Alice in Wonderland. In addition to the places for preschoolers to run, slide, jump and yell there’s even a child-sized castle and pirate ship. At different places throughout Fairytale Town, there are farm-yard animals perfect for petting that the staff often assists with. Fairytale Town is a perfect place for your preschooler to run amuck in a safe environment. Advantages of Fairytale Town for Preschoolers
Fairytale town was designed for preschoolers with their needs and desires in mind.
Paths are wide enough for strollers (except the crooked mile).
There are lots of benches for parents to sit, relax and watch their preschooler.
The Lazy River is shallow enough to prevent a preschooler from swimming, though they may get wet. Children are not allowed in the Lazy River, except for water days.Restrooms and drinking fountains are preschool-size.
There’s a snack bar with lots of options for cold drinks and ice cream.
Everything your preschooler might climb on has been surrounded by rubberized ground, making it less likely your preschooler will hurt themselves.
Make Sure to Check Out
Check in the corners of Farmer Brown's Barn for incubated chicken eggs or brand new chicks. In the back of the park in a wooded area is Sherwood Forest with a play structure for kids.
Find Mr. McGregor's garden with herbs and vegetable plants. Most of the time, there are watering cans for your preschooler to water the plants.
Check out the Old Woman's Shoe slide. My favorite slide.
During the summer, volunteers from local schools set up art stations with projects perfect for preschoolers.
Don't miss the Children’s Theatre Series on the Mother Goose Stage in April and the Puppet Theatre May thru July. For the Children’s Theater Series, performances are included in your admission fee. The Puppet Theatre has an additional charge. Check the website for more information and hours.
Birthday Parties and Fun Days
Disadvantages of Fairytale Town for Preschoolers
It’s easy for your preschooler to get away from you so you need to stay vigilant.Though children are not allowed in the Lazy River, most preschoolers are drawn to it. There's little water actually in the Lazy River, though you may be taking a wet child home.
On busy weekends during the spring, there may be lines for some of the slides.
Most of the slides are quite high and may be intimidating for younger preschoolers.
The slide inside Farmer Brown's Barn has the steps inside and the slide outside. You may be helping your preschooler up the stairs and then running to the outside to collect them. If you go down the slide yourself, remember it’s not built for grownups and you may land pretty hard.
While there are some shady spots in Fairytale Town, summers in Sacramento are very hot, so be prepared with water. Always wear sun block and consider hats and sunglasses.
Fairytale Town is entirely outdoors, so it’s only open weather permitting.
