Miwok Park
This is one of the best parks in the Elk Grove area. There are plenty of benches, picnic tables and shady grassy spots for the adults. There are also tennis courts, and a soccer field. The playground area is called Playground Pals. It consists of a giant play structure complete with turrets and towers. One end is built like a pirate boat, complete with a treasure chest. On the south side of the play structure is a kid-sized climbing wall and a huge green dinosaur to watch the kids. It’s a great play structure for tag and hide-and-go-seek.
Advantages of Miwok Park for Preschoolers
For those younger preschoolers, there’s a perfect area, just their size, to the western edge of the park. It’s called Tot Land. Monkey bars and swings are just their size. There are giant and ancient oak trees that the playground lies beneath. The trees help keep the area cool during the summer, give the kids plenty of places for hide and seek, and provide homes for birds and squirrels kids can chase.
Lots and lots of swings. There are plenty of swings for anyone that wants to swing—something that is lacking in many parks.
Disadvantages of Miwok Park for Preschoolers
Some of the monkey bars and climbing equipment are not fit for preschoolers, requiring parents of young preschoolers to be vigilant.The play structure is very large and it’s easy to ‘loose’ your child (especially if they are intentionally hiding) for a few minutes if you don’t keep an eye on them.
There is a sandbox by the Tot Land area, which is great in theory, but it’s often messy, full of leaves and dirt.
