On the Border
On the Border is a chain restaurant with three different restaurants in the Sacramento area. It features an interesting fusion of Mexican and Southwestern foods and caters to families. In addition to their large margaritas, and huge burritos, On the Border is a great place to take preschoolers.Advantages of On the Border for Preschoolers
Chips and Salsa.
Need I say more? Chips and salsa will easily keep a hungry preschooler from whining for food too quickly. The salsa is fairly bland too and your preschooler may enjoy the flavor.
An Activity Book
On the Border supplies an activity book and crayons for children.
The Kids Menu
The Kids Menu consists of Mexican favorites such as quesadillas. It also consists of kids favorites such as chicken tenders and corn dogs. For health conscious families, you can get grilled chicken and sides of rice. Each kid’s meal comes with a drink and a small ice cream sundae (let your server know quickly if you don’t want this to come at the end of the meal). Each drink comes with one refill.
The Staff
The wait staff is generally attentive to a family’s needs (it is a family restaurant) and are happy to bring extra napkins, crayons and chips and salsa.
Disadvantages of On the Border for Preschoolers
Crowds
On the Border may become crowded on popular holidays such as Valentine’s Day and on the weekends. While they do have a lobby for extra seating, it can become crowded quickly. Consider going for to On the Border for lunch or during the week for dinner.
The Tables
There are a few booths in On the Border, but they fill up fast. The tables are fairly close together and a wiggly preschooler may inadvertently bang their chair into another chair or another table. Try to corral your preschoolers into a corner, against a wall or window. Since the servers carry heavy trays and tend to move quickly, you should never allow your preschooler to run around the restaurant or stand or sit in a pathway.
The Activity Book
If your preschooler is young they may not be able to do the activities in the Activity Book. Consider bringing your own coloring book from home or expecting your young preschooler to just color all over the pages.
