Ancil Hoffman County Park

Buy at Art.comOne of the best places to take your preschooler on their first hike is at the Ancil Hoffman County Park. It is a huge park consisting of a golf course and the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. It’s bordered on two sides by the American River. Ancil Hoffman County Park is home to many wild animals such as deer and wild turkeys. The deer are very tame, and quiet children can get a close-up view of these amazing animals.

The Effie Yeaw Nature Center

Park at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center (follow the signs past the golf course), and you’ll find preschool  friendly hiking paths leading into the woods. These paths are shady and fairly short with no elevation changes. While narrow at some points, you can probably take an all-terrain stroller down them. At various points, markers have been set up to highlight a plant or animal, making it a great educational opportunity for your preschooler. As you walk, you'll find many opportunities to see deer, birds and other animals.

At the Effie Yeaw Nature Center, there are maps, restrooms and exhibits, including reproduced Maidu Indian homes.

For any sort of preschool hiking in the Sacramento area, you should bring water, sun block, and a basic first-aid kit. The Ancil Hofffman County Park also has plenty of grassy space and a few picnic tables for a picnic lunch.

Recomendation for the Ancil Hoffman County Park for Preschoolers

This is a great place for your preschooler to have their first hike. The trails are short and easy, perfect for a preschooler's shorter legs. There are great opportunities for your preschooler to see animals they wouldn't normally get a chance to see, and plenty of educational opportunities.
